According to the United Arab Emirates' Government portal, the challenges to the natural environment today are immense. The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) rapid economic development made the country face serious environmental challenges that arise from the high pace of population growth, the increase in the demand for energy and water and the fast-paced urban development accompanied with high level of GHG and other emissions in the UAE. Invasive species, carbon footprints, limited water resources, overfishing, waste generation, air pollution and land degradation and desertification are posing an environmental threat to the UAE. Protection of environment and sustainable development are therefore key topics which receive great attention from the UAE Government.  So much so that the years 2023 and 2024 were dedicated to sustainability.
